This post builds on my previous post on the subject. If you haven’t read it, then please check it out first: The Law of Attraction – What You Need to Know and Why You Need to Be Excited About It
Did this or something like it ever happen to you?
You learned about the Law of Attraction for the first time, or you read a book, watched a video, or talked to someone and got all excited. You realised that you can have, do or be anything you want.
All pumped and ready to change your life, you wrote down affirmations, put together a ‘vision board’ and did a whole bunch of other things. And then…
Eventually, you got sucked back into the grind of day to day life and life remained pretty much the same.
Sound familiar? It does to me!
This has happened to me more times than I care to count. And having gone through this so many times, I think I’ve figured out what the problem is:
It’s not that the Law of Attraction doesn’t work. It’s just that I didn’t.
Let me explain.
Applying the Law of Attraction
You see, knowledge in and of itself is pretty useless. It must be applied.
As Bruce Lee famously said:
Knowing is not enough, we must apply. Willing is not enough, we must do.
So simply knowing about the Law of Attraction, or reading about it, isn’t going to change anything.
You need to put in the work, because the Law of Attraction doesn’t work unless you do!
Yes, having the mighty Universe doing your bidding might mean that you will have less physical work to do. But it doesn’t mean that you have no work at all.
You still have to do the ‘vibrational work’ – i.e. the work that is required to maintain a vibration that is a match to what you want to manifest, so it can come in.
But unfortunately, this is where most people fail.
The Reasons Why the Law of Attraction Doesn’t Work for Most People
The reasons the Law of Attraction doesn’t work for most people are twofold:
On the one hand, it’s because they don’t do the (vibrational) work.
And on the other hand, it’s because they unwittingly sabotage themselves.
Not Doing the Work
Our biggest dreams and desires are constantly calling us to them.
It takes a lot of courage to make the decision to heed that call, because we’ve been conditioned since birth to believing that we are incapable and unworthy.
And as exhilarating and intoxicating as it may be when we finally begin to make the journey, these things still remain big and alien to us – at first.
It takes a fair amount of growth to ease ourselves into believing that what we want is possible and in fact coming true.
The easiest way to achieve this is to play with the idea in our mind and do what we can do to make it familiar and ‘real’ to us.
Repeatedly entertaining the idea of our desires having already manifested, and feeling the feelings that we would feel in such a situation, is the true and tested path to manifesting them.
This this takes effort. It’s work. And this is work that most people tend to shy away from.
Self-Sabotage and Being Driven to Distraction
Not doing the work is a problem in itself. But it also causes another…
By failing to focus on their objective many people leave themselves vulnerable to the other sin – to becoming distracted and straying off track.
They think that since the Universe is taking care of everything (which it is), they can simply switch off and do nothing.
And they’d even be mostly right… if they actually did nothing.
But that’s not what they do.
They continue to worry about the subject. They act, think and speak about the subject from a place of lack, fear or resentment.
And, if that wasn’t bad enough, they fill up their time and their heads with all kinds of other negativity like gossip, drama and the news.
This doing ‘nothing’ is, in fact, doing a whole lot of ‘something’. And that something is not without consequences.
At the very least, it is guaranteed to mess up your vibration, so that you’re not really a match to what you say you want (and thus, fail to attract it). Trust me. I know all about this one.
But it can get even worse. Much worse.
Attracting What You Do Not Want
By giving their time, attention and energy to these other, unwanted things, people unwittingly end up become a vibrational match to those things.
They then start to attract these things into their lives. And then, they wonder how and why these things show up!
‘The Law of Attraction Doesn’t Work!’
So, even though people might think that they’re not doing anything, they’re doing a lot of vibrational work and using the Law of Attraction against themselves. Had they put more time, energy and thought into pursuing their goals and working on their mindset, they would steer clear of distractions.
But of course, few people realise what they’re doing. And when things don’t work out, they’ll blame the Universe and say, ‘The Law of Attraction doesn’t work!’ I know because this is exactly what I did.
Yet it’s much more the case that we simply don’t know how to make it work for us.
So How Do We Fix This?
It’s pretty simple really. We have to learn to focus and do the vibrational work. Losing ourselves in our work is our salvation because it keeps us on track.
So our job as deliberate creators is to focus our attention single-mindedly on what we want to manifest or have come true for us.
It’s to think about what we want in ways that are pleasing to us… to trust, believe and expect these, and other good things, to come to us.
Our task is to remain hopeful and optimistic about life and to appreciate the good that is already there.
Our work is to maintain a steady vibration of positive expectation.
That’s our work.
This means steering clear of all distractions.
It means, resisting the urge to give any of our precious time or energy to other things – especially to things that are likely to put us off track.
It means becoming very selective about what we give our attention to. And it could even mean learning to ignore ‘what is’ – unless it is good and we want to create more of the same.
And yes, these are not easy things to do.
In practice, it’s much easier to squander our time, energy and attention on other things and to run with the crowd – which is what most people tend to do.
But if we do this, then we can’t complain when we get the same results as most people do … and when what we want still continues to elude us.
We get to choose and there are consequences either way.
So, as you can now appreciate, using the Law of Attraction deliberately to manifest your desires is not the easiest thing in the world to accomplish.
It is especially hard if you’re used to thinking in unhelpful ways and have the force of habit and momentum working against you.
And society at large isn’t going to help you on your way either. Far from it. The control system has seen to it that you’re met with invitations to participate in anger, hatred, gloom and misery at every turn.
But this doesn’t mean that the Law of Attraction doesn’t work.
And it also doesn’t mean that you can never get it to work for you.
You can still change things for the better. But you have to be willing to work.
And more importantly, you have to give it time.
Chances are, you didn’t learn your unhelpful habits of thought overnight. So you’re not going to change them overnight either.
This means that you have to make a long-term commitment. And it means working diligently to change your thoughts and beliefs and eventually, your outer reality.
But, if you’re willing to do this, then there really is nothing that you can’t have, do, or be.
