A rose once grew where all could see
Sheltered beside a wall,
And as the days passed swiftly by
Its branches spread, straight and tall…
One day, a beam of light shone through
A crevice had opened wide,
The rose bent gently towards its warmth
Then passed to the other side.
Now you who deeply feel its loss
Be comforted – the rose still blooms there,
Its beauty even greater now
Nurtured by God’s own loving care.

This is one of my favourite poems. I love how it gently guides the reader to see the passing of their loved one as a transition to a different state and not an ending and how it offers us hope that they still live on…
Although the author of this version is not known, it is quite similar to a poem by the same name, written by A.L. Frink and is believed by some to be an adaptation of that work.
