“Conformity is the jailer of freedom and the enemy of growth.
John F. Kennedy
Our society is run by insane people for insane objectives. I think we’re being run by maniacs for maniacal ends and I think I’m liable to be put away as insane for expressing that. That’s what’s insane about it.
– John Lennon
From the day we are born, we are brainwashed and forced to conform (under pain of punishment). The beliefs that we are indoctrinated into are largely determined by where we are born and the culture we are born into. But it is the same everywhere: there is no freedom of thought. There is only dogma.
If you think that this sort of thing happens only in Communist China and countries that are under Sharia Law, think again. Brainwashing is alive and well in ‘free’ and democratic societies as well (A quick perusal of the lyrics to well known songs such as ‘Working Class Hero‘ by John Lennon, ‘The Logical Song‘ by Supertramp and ‘The Unforgiven‘ by Metallica will convince you of the truth of this statement).
The same people, who so kindly arrange for the indoctrination and brainwashing in each and every country, then pit one belief system against another, until we become very conscious of the differences between our own dogmatic belief system and those of other people. Thus, we are easily conditioned to accept an ‘us’ vs ‘them’ view of the world. And so it goes that humanity is divided – artificially and through design.
Events are arranged and so is the media coverage. And the brainwashing continues… Still the unsuspecting masses doze, secure in their hypnotic stupor and ever ready and willing to dance to the whim of their puppet-masters. They are too busy conforming and doing as they are told to notice that anything is amiss: “Got to rush to work, mow the lawn and pay the bills… I’ve got no time to realise that I am being right-royally f*cked over”.
A tiny handful break free and see things for what they are. They opt out of the dogma and the brainwashing. They choose to ignore the media-circus.
But it is hard being the only sane ones in a lunatic asylum that is both run and peopled by lunatics.
Breaking out of the hypnosis means that you can no longer buy into ‘us’ vs ‘them’. You love the American ‘dude’ as much as the Egyptian goat herder. You love the Israeli solider as much as you love the Palestinian mother. The Hindu, the Jehovah’s Witness, the Buddhist and the Anglican – they all become your brothers and sisters.
When ‘problem-reaction-solution‘ strikes and the rest of the world is ready to act out their part in the drama, you are unable to take sides because you have no ‘side’ to take – you are on Humanity’s side.
You also know that there is much more to any incident than what the mainstream media and the official sources say. You want to explain all of this and help people understand what is really going on. You want to help ease their fear and suffering. But you know you can’t. You remember that you are a square peg in a world full of round holes. And so you keep your mouth shut.
It is enough to drive anyone mad.
So it is, that ultimately (and ironically), the price of sanity in an insane world is nothing short of ‘insanity’!
