Everything around you that you call life was made up by people that were no smarter than you and you can change it, you can influence it…
– Steve Jobs
There is an epidemic that has swept the world – a deadly disease that afflicts all of humanity. It is called ‘acceptingtheworldasitis-itis’.
The most common symptom of this disease is the tendency to walk around saying ‘that’s just the way it is’ or ‘that’s how it’s always been done’ – even if you are not happy about the way things are.
Nothing just is. Everything was made so by someone or something. And when it comes to human affairs, everything is the way it is because some person or people made it so.
The important thing to remember is that these people were just that – people.
They were no more special than you or I.
We’re people too. And we are created by the same Divine Force that created them.
We possess the same creative intelligence; the same skills and abilities of all those who came before us.
So why then do we surrender our divine ability and genius at the altar of ‘that’s just the way it is’ or ‘that’s how it’s always been done’?
It’s sad. It’s ludicrous! Far worse though, is the fact that every time one of cops out like this, we rob all of humanity.
No one is ever going to know what new and wonderful things we could imagine or dream up, because we quit even before we started.
We also set the example for everyone else to do as we do – to cop out and say ‘but that’s just the way it is’.
A better world is possible. But it requires us to stop playing small. And it requires us to remember who we really are.
It requires us to redefine how smart we might actually be.
