Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.
– Martin Luther King, Jnr.
Hatred is born of fear. Fear is born of ignorance. The most hateful are the most fearful and they are the most ignorant.
Ignorance isn’t a bad thing. It is not used here as an insult to anybody. It is simply the reality that we all must face until we see the truth.
But when you are fed a diet of information that is calculated to give you a warped worldview; when you are taught to believe that everything that is wrong with your life and with your world is the fault of someone else, then you become a hater. And so it is for many, but there is a heavy cost involved.
It is bad enough to hate others through ignorance; to carry the burden of fear and hate and to let it define you and every moment of your life… But to live without ever knowing that you are the only one who is responsible for everything that is wrong with your life – that is sheer hell. It means you can never find peace and happiness. It means that even if you get rid of everyone else on this planet, it still isn’t going to fix things for you or make you happy. So this is the worst form of ignorance.
You can’t change the world by fighting against it.
You have to look inside and find out where all this fear and anger came from. You have to let go of the brainwashing, the prejudice and the conditioned responses and find your True Self. You must rediscover who you were before you learned to hate.
You have to look at the world with honest eyes and figure out just how much you have contributed to the problem. You have to let go of the old thinking and change yourself. In doing so, you become part of the solution and you inspire change in others.
This is the only way out for all of us. But not all of us will take this path… and that’s ok.
